2019 annual report

Paris, July 9, 2020

Dear friends and sympathizers,

As we face an unprecedented crisis worldwide since the end of 2019, we hope that you, your families and the communities supported by our partner organizations, remain safe and healthy.

We are pleased to present our 2019 annual report in French.

The pandemic that we are facing has triggered an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis. These difficult times have highlighted the urgent need to make economic, social and cultural rights a reality for all. It is this observation which presided over the creation of our organization and which continued to guide our actions in 2019.

In 2019, we continued to document the level of enjoyment of these forgotten and yet essential rights to lead a dignified life, especially in times of crisis.

2019 is also a year of real strengthening of our organization with the implementation of a two-year project including monitoring the level of realization of economic, social and cultural rights in 6 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Mali, Niger, Mozambique and Senegal. We will ensure that all of these activities include an analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the countries mentioned in order to offer specific recommendations to reduce its effects, in particular for those over 80% informal workers in sub-Saharan Africa hard hit by this crisis.

Faced with the crisis we are living in, respect for economic, social and cultural rights seems essential: the time has come to demand these rights loud and clear, to demand from States a lasting change in public policies to reduce inequalities and poverty, to demand concrete measures to accelerate the enjoyment of these rights. At Human Dignity, and thanks to your support, we do it every day.
