Our Updated Practical Guide for NGOs
Paris, April 10, 2025
Human Dignity is publishing today an updated version of its practical guide for NGOs on economic, social, and cultural rights (ESCR). This guide reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting and strengthening the participation of NGOs, particularly those from French-speaking countries, in monitoring States' obligations regarding ESCR.
The 2025 version provides updated information and practical tools to better understand ESCR and the methods for submitting reports to the United Nations Committee. The goal is to assist NGOs in actively engaging in this key process for the protection of human rights, an area often overlooked in favor of civil and political rights.
ESCR cover fundamental rights such as health, education, decent housing, and a healthy environment. These rights must be fully integrated into the advocacy and monitoring efforts of NGOs.
Through this revised guide, Human Dignity aims to enhance the involvement of NGOs in the work of the United Nations Committee on ESCR. The guide covers:
-
The rights guaranteed by the ICESCR and the obligations of State parties;
-
The methods for submitting reports to the Committee on ESCR and the opportunities for NGOs to actively engage in this process.
We encourage all interested NGOs to consult this guide to better understand the process and maximize their impact.
