Monitoring of the progressive realisation of economic, social and cultural rights in Benin and Senegal

As part of our ongoing project on the promotion of economic, social and cultural rights in 6 African countries, Human Dignity is on mission in Benin and Senegal to assess the implementation of rights to health, water and social protection.

The mission to Senegal, from 2 to 10 August, is led by Mrs. Karina Ivanova, Human Dignity project assistant, in collaboration with the Senegal section of the International Society for Human Rights (SIDH). The objective is to collect information on the level of implementation of the recommendations relating to the rights to health and water made by the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to Senegal in 2019.

The mission to Benin, from 9 to 17 August, aims at collecting information on the level of implementation of the recommendations relating to rights to health and social protection formulated to Benin by the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Social Rights in 2020. A short training course on health and social protection rights will also be organised at the start of the mission for civil society organizations in order to strengthen their capacities to work on these rights and to monitor their implementation. The mission is led by Mrs. Seynabou Benga, director of Human Dignity, in collaboration with the Beninese organisation Human Rights Priority.

The information collected will be used as a basis for the drafting of two joint reports by our organisations. It will be transmitted to the Senegalese and Beninese authorities as well as to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
