Burundi: Human Dignity and HuRaLaw submit observations to the UN Committee on economic, social and cultural rights

Paris, Bujumbura - 27 January 2014

Human Dignity, in partnership with the Burundian NGO Human Rights Law Association, formally submitted observations to the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights for the adoption of the List of Issues on Burundi. 

This joint submission provides the Committee with information on articles 3 (equal right of men and women), 6 (right to work) and 7 (right of everyone to the enjoyment of just and favourable conditions of work) of the the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The List of Issues to be adopted by the Committee in March 2015 will identify the questions that will guide its dialogue with the Burundian authorities later this year. The formal review of the the initial report of Burundi, due since 1992, on the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, will be held in September 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Human Dignity and the Human Rights Law Association will submit a detailed parallel report to the Committee in the summer of 2015.
