DRC: the impact of copper and cobalt exploitation on women's rights in Sakania

DRC: New report on the impact of copper and cobalt exploitation on women's rights in Sakania

Kinshasa, Paris - June 10, 2019

With our technical assistance, our partner in the DRC, the Action Against Impunity for Human Rights (ACIDH), has just published a new report: The impact of the industrial exploitation of copper and cobalt on women's rights in Sakania. The publication is available in French here.

It discusses the impact of the industrial exploitation of copper and cobalt by the company Frontier SA on the economic and social rights of women in Sakania, in the province of Upper Katanga in the DRC.

This publication has been submitted to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, which will examine the implementation of women's rights in the DRC in July 2019 in Geneva. We ask the Committee to adopt strong and specific recommendations to ensure that the DRC effectively protects women and its population from the dangerous effects of extraction by private companies.

You can follow the public review of women's rights in the DRC by the United Nations live on July 9, 2019 on http://webtv.un.org
